‘Booch Basics: A Kombucha-Making Workshop

Sunday, March 4, 2018
3:00pm – 4:00pm
At The Village Juicery: 99 Roncesvalles Avenue, Toronto, Ontario, M6R 2K9

Do you love kombucha, and are you curious to make your own? Learn about the benefits of fermentation and let holistic-as-heck nutritionist Candace Bell demystify the process and the bacterial cultures (and why you should love them!).

Kombucha has recently become a popular drink, but its history is long and riddled with mythology. This is a beautiful tradition worth reclaiming! Kombucha is a health-enhancing drink made of fermented tea. It supports digestion, immunity, and gives a boost of energy.

With the knowledge you’ll acquire in this 1-hour workshop, you can improve your digestion, boost your immunity, and excite your taste buds!! You’ll have fun, you’ll giggle, and you’ll walk away with the confidence (and the scoby!) to get fermenting in your own kitchen!

The price of this workshop includes your attendance at this hour-long informative event, a kombucha tasting, a handout of thorough directions on how to make kombucha, and your own scoby to take home and start making kombucha with.

Creamy and Dreamy Dairy-Free Fermentation Workshop

Sunday, March 18, 2018
3:00pm – 5:00pm
At The Holistic as Heck Headquarters (within one block of Runnymede Station; exact address given upon purchase of ticket, to protect privacy)
$60 per person: BUY YOUR TICKET HERE!

It’s a dairy-free dream! Learn how to ferment nuts and seeds into creamy, healthy deliciousness. You will come to understand the basic principles of fermentation and how to utilize  this tradition without fear.  We will make a couple different fermented bases and talk about ways to modify them, and then play with their versatility by making them into different dishes and sauces. You will also take home all the recipes with you!

We will make (and eat!) the following:

  • coconut yogurt
  • a chocolate “dream drink”
  • fermented cashew cream
  • a cheezy sauce
  • strawberry “frozen yogurt”
  • fermented “cheese” cake

All recipes are entirely dairy-free and vegan, with the possible exception of local raw honey (which can easily be substituted to be 100% vegan upon request; you will be asked about this upon purchase of your ticket to make sure everyone’s needs are met).

Fermentation Made Easy!

Thursday, April 19, 2018
7:00pm – 8:30pm

Come get your ‘kraut on!

Fermenting foods is a beautiful tradition, and a great way to preserve in-season produce, increase its nutritional value, and support your health.

In this workshop, learn how to lacto-ferment vegetables (and don’t be scared by the word “lacto” – there’s no dairy involved; this class it completely vegan) and once you master the basics (pickles), we will build on the concept and make more intricate and unique dishes using the same principles.

Learn about the benefits of fermented food and let holistic-as-heck nutritionist Candace Bell demystify the different processes and bacterial cultures (and why you should love them!). Improve your digestion, boost your immunity, excite your taste buds, and get out of your comfort zone! You’ll have fun, you’ll giggle, and you’ll walk away with the confidence to get fermenting in your own kitchen.

You’ll be taking all the recipes home with you, too!

You will learn how to make (and will sample):

  • pickled vegetables
  • ginger sauerkraut
  • simple kimchi
